The City of Hutto was incorporated in 1911, but the history of the town dates back to 1876. Hutto’s downtown reflects this rich history and is home to many businesses, restaurants, shops and service providers.
The Rivery, Georgetown

The Rivery is a multi-use development situated between Williams Drive and Hwy. 29, west of IH 35. Developed in 2002, it is home to retail, banks, restaurants, a park, a large movie theater and other businesses. It is comprised of approximately 280 acres and was the first large, master-planned commercial development in Georgetown. Lots and lease space are available.
Parks and Recreation
1. Rivery Park is easily seen from the southbound frontage road of IH 35, but its entrance can easily be overlooked. One of Georgetown’s newer parks, its features include an 18-hole disc golf course, a playground, restrooms, a gazebo, tables and outdoor grills. A 1-mile concrete trail connects Rivery Park with San Gabriel Park and runs along the banks of the North San Gabriel River. Another trail to the west connects Rivery Park to Chandler Park near Georgetown Country Club. The entrance to this park is located on the north side of Rivery Boulevard, just east of Wolf Ranch Parkway.

Toll 183A is the new toll road that connects with US 183 to the south near Lakeline Mall, runs east of the existing highway through Cedar Park and Leander and then reconnects with US 183 at the South San Gabriel River.
History
1. Davis Cemetery is the resting place for a group of 30 homesteaders led by John Webster. While en route to a land grant in Burnet on Aug. 27, 1839, the party was attacked by Comanche Indians. Mrs. Webster and her two children were captured by the Comanche band. All the others were killed and rest together in one grave. The cemetery land was originally set aside by the Davis family and has been used for decades by family members of the original settlers and close friends.

Ronald Reagan Boulevard extension
The South Phase 2 construction on Ronald Reagan Boulevard from FM 2243 to Hwy. 29 in Georgetown is now complete. The four-lane divided roadway is approximately 4.1 miles and opened Feb. 1. Ronald Reagan Boulevard extends Parmer Lane north through Williamson County and is planned to reach IH 35 north of Georgetown. North Phase 1 from Hwy. 29 to FM 3405 opened in September 2007, and construction on North Phase 2 from FM 3405 to RM 2338 is expected to be completed by summer.

1. Grace Academy began in 2000 after three home-school families got together and developed a vision for a classical Christian school. 5. A 600-acre mixed-use project called Goodwater is being planned on the northwest corner of Shell Road and Hwy. 195. The large development will have a small-town feel fashioned after old town Georgetown. The development will be centered around a 40-acre series of lakes and a greenbelt. Goodwater will have an 80-acre central park, tree-lined streets and will be designed with a focus on walkability. Other defining features are native trees and a town center with mixed vertical-use spaces. The first phase will be 135 acres with about 350 housing units. There will be a wide variety of housing types to include garage apartments, townhomes, bungalows and large luxury homes. Developer David Singleton estimates the project to be a 12-15 year endeavor. 6. Waterstone Development has submitted a zoning request to the city for a planned unit development called Three Forks near the intersections of IH 35, Toll 130 and Airport Road. The 355 acres are currently zoned agriculture, but the PUD request would accommodate new urbanist development and will include mixed-use space with an emphasis on walkability. Conceptual plans include a business park, elementary school site, commercial, retail and residential. The proposed development would feature 600-1,000 residential units, including single family, multi-family and townhomes. For more information, call 381-1280.

7. Annunciation Maternity Home, located at 3610 Shell Road, serves young women ages 14 and up who are in crisis pregnancies. It offers housing, continuing education, parenting classes, job assistance, transportation, child care, counseling and adoption referrals. SH 195 is a state highway that runs from Killeen to Georgetown and the Texas Memorial Highway System has designated the entire road as the Phantom Warriors Highway. The portion being featured this month is on the northwest side of the city of Georgetown. The drive is mostly rural ranchland, but significant development is expected in the next decade. Plans are in place for thousands of homes, retail and commercial developments. One development is being described as the creation of a second downtown for the city. The convergence of Toll 130 and IH 35 make this a very desirable location.

Hutto was named the fastest growing city in the state, according to U.S. Census Bureau data from July 2000 to July 2006, so it is no surprise that major projects are underway to accommodate such growth. With the city's record-setting growth, the Hutto Independent School District has plans to build 12 schools within the next 10 years. The city staff has developed a plan to provide an expanded pedestrian-friendly downtown area yet still maintain the historic feel that downtown offers.

The scenery is changing drastically on the drive around SE Inner Loop in Georgetown.
