General Manager’s Note - March 2008
Written by Matt Painter Wednesday, 19 March 2008
March brings change. Spring arrives on the 20th, according to both my calendar and the little green leaves on the crepe myrtles along our driveway. March also brings a change to the Georgetown/Hutto/Taylor team here at Community Impact Newspaper. Karin Shaver has moved on to spearhead the addition of our fifth newspaper in Southwest Austin.
One local business owner introduces me as her “slightly-less-attractive-but-equally-competent replacement.” Whatever your assessment, I am excited and honored to be a part of the Community Impact team.
My family moved to Georgetown in 1991, and with the exception of four years of college in San Marcos, I have been here ever since. I remember when Hutto was hard to find unless you were on Hwy. 79, and when most of the intersections in Georgetown were controlled by stop signs rather than lights. My wife and I met at the Red Poppy Festival, so even though I was born in Phoenix, this area really feels like home to me.
Have you ever driven past a small business and wondered, “What do they have or do in there?” One of the biggest perks to my job is that I get to stop and find out. While we strive to bring you news about local businesses, I encourage you to stop and go into a store or shop you’re curious about. Life can have a frantic pace, but it’s worth the time.
At Community Impact, we believe excellence is our minimum standard. If our paper seems different to you, I would point to that belief as one of the reasons. It is a mind set that drives our team to provide you with high-quality, useful information in every issue. If you have any comments or feedback, please call or e-mail me.
