Officials from the East Williamson County Higher Education Center and its partner institutions announced the addition of Texas Tech University as its newest educational partner Aug. 19.

TTU will be EWCHEC's first university partner and joins other partners including Temple College at Taylor and Texas State Technical College Waco.

"It is all about relationships that we deliver education in Texas," said Valerie Paton, associate vice provost of TTU. "It is a privilege to be part of this partnership."

Rep. John Carter joins officials from the East Williamson County Higher Education Center, Temple College at Taylor and Texas Tech University to announce TTU as the first university partner for EWCHEC.

Along with TTU's partnership, the TTU Health Sciences Center will partner with EWCHEC to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Temple College also announced the addition of a RN bridge program that will allow vocational nurses to return to the classroom and receive an associate degree in nursing that can then be used to earn a bachelor's from TTU.

EWCHEC Executive Director Chuck McCarter said he hopes to break ground in October on the campus' first building. The 24,000 sq. ft. building would be home to a library, bookstore, administrative offices and classrooms. Plans also include 8,000 sq. ft. to be used for workforce training classes from TSTC Waco. Space at TCAT will also be available for EWCHEC classes, which are expected to begin in Fall 2009, McCarter said.
