Eight years ago, Liz Broussard began an internet business from home, banking the success of www.classic-charms.com on women’s desire to preserve memories in a physical way through a piece of jewelry. Classic Charms owner Liz Broussard“The entire business is about making memories last forever,” Broussard said. “You look at a charm bracelet and it basically tells your life story — where you’ve been and what you enjoy.”

Classic Charms grew online as Broussard’s son, now 14, helped her build the site and its programs.

Three years ago, Broussard opened a retail shop in Cedar Park. She is considering franchising after several customers expressed on interest in having a Classic Charms location in their city.

“Very few jewelers specialize in charms like this,” Broussard said. “Big retailers may have one or two trays of charms and that’s it, but we can get a charm for anything. Rembrandt [charm manufacturer] has more than 15,000 charms in their collection. It’s very rare that someone comes in here looking for a charm that we cannot find.”

Rembrandt Charms, which make up the bulk of Broussard’s offerings, are available in sterling silver, gold plate, 10K yellow gold and 14K yellow and white gold. Each charm comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. Broussard loves Rembrandt for its large variety of charms and unique features such as moveable parts and custom-made picture charms.

In addition to customer praise, Classic Charms received attention from “Modern Jeweler Magazine” for Broussard’s special breast cancer survivor bracelet, which she originally created for her sister. The bracelet was featured in January 2008 with 12 other pieces of jewelry representing a cause. It is available in sterling silver and 14K gold, and proceeds go to Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

Broussard is so successful with charms she’s decided to try out the earring market: www.classic-earrings.com features sterling silver earrings with hundreds of different embellishments, including cubic zirconias, pearls and gems as well as 14K yellow and white gold styles.
