Catfish favorite opens location in Cedar Park
Springhill Restaurant made its foray into the dining scene of Cedar Park in June, but has been a staple in the Austin area for more than 20 years.
Known best as a great place to get fried catfish and chicken, Springhill also dishes out salads, boiled and grilled shrimp and grilled chicken for those watching their waistbands.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is about as laid back as its menu and is decorated with a nautical theme. Pictures of catfish are painted on the walls, and fish netting is used to divide the sections of the dining room. The furniture has the classic look of a down-home diner, complete with retro chairs.
The menu includes several appetizers of mostly fried vegetables. The Fried Green Tomatoes ($4.49) are lightly breaded and fried to a perfect golden brown. This item is a definite must try.
The catfish at Springhill is served both grilled and fried ($8.99-$11.99) in a basket with French fries and two hush puppies or on a plate with cole slaw and pinto beans as well. The basket came with four big fried pieces that had the right amount of crispy breading. The fish was fresh and delicious.
The Springhill Salad ($9.99) comes with fried or grilled chicken or catfish served on a mountain of lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and cheese. The Half Springhill Salad ($6.99) is the perfect size for one person. The lettuce was crisp and clean, and the chicken on top was crunchy.
The Chicken Fried Steak ($10.99 at dinner) is probably the best I’ve ever had. The large piece of steak is breaded and fried, then smothered in cream gravy and served with a salad, French fries or mashed potatoes and Texas toast.
Lunch specials are served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and range in price from $7.99 to $8.99. A lunch buffet with salad bar, side dishes, catfish during the week and another rotating entree is also available.
If the meal alone isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, or the sweet tooth bites, don’t worry. Fruit Cobbler ($3.49) is made fresh featuring a different fruit every day. For an additional 50 cents, a scoop of Blue Bell Ice Cream can be served over the piping hot dessert. The Chocolate Lover’s Pie ($3.49) is made of chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream and is a chocolate lover’s dream.
With a menu of Southern comfort food and Texas favorites, this location carries on the tradition of its other locations.
