General Manager's Note - May 2008

There are a lot of ongoing projects in Cedar Park and Leander. Gateway at Leander and 1890 Ranch are making shopping more convenient and bringing sales tax dollars to the cities. With the Cedar Park Event Center breaking ground this month, the Texas X Park on the horizon, the water park under discussion and the Capital Metro commuter rail beginning service this year, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the changing landscape.
Along with economic development, both cities are also working to improve the quality of life for residents.
Both fire departments are growing with the cities’ population. Cedar Park opened Fire Station #4 May 3, and the Leander Fire Department was awarded more than $900,000 in grants for hiring.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Veterans Memorial Park opens to the public, and the New Hope Drive extension to RM 1431 will be open to accommodate nearby traffic. Cedar Park is also breaking ground on its recreation center this summer, and Leander’s Devine Lake Park just became available for fishing this month.
Concert and movie nights in the city parks provide free entertainment for all residents throughout the summer months.
In just a couple of weeks, Cedar Park will host the annual Heritage Festival.
These events bring us out into the community and bring us together as a community. It’s a great time to slow down and enjoy the community in which we live.
