Importance of shared vision

A few weeks ago I attended the grand opening ceremony for the Austin Community College – Cypress Creek campus expansion. During the ceremony, Leander ISD Superintendent Tom Glenn thanked citizens for having the foresight to approve the bond that helped fund the expansion project. He went on to emphasize the importance that ACC continue to expand into surrounding areas.

As I listened to Glenn’s speech, it struck me that no matter what development is taking place – whether it’s a community college expansion, the opening of new fire stations or a housing development in the transit-oriented development – they all point to the importance of a shared vision among citizens and city leaders to keep Leander and Cedar Park one step ahead of the population growth expected in these communities.

It’s hard to believe that it has already been one year since the launch of the Cedar Park/Leander edition of Impact. Our staff would like to extend a special thanks to the readers and advertisers who have helped make our first year such a success.

Having been raised in Leander, it has been an exciting experience for me to be back in my “neck of the woods” witnessing the transition of these cities.

My trip through Leander and Cedar Park March 3 is a perfect example of how much things have changed. I started the day at the grand opening of Leander’s second fire station, passed by a crowded parking lot at the new H-E-B in Leander, took my inaugural spin on the toll road and found myself sitting at the intersection of 183A and New Hope Road looking over at the hospital.

As we move into our second year, I hope you will continue to contact us with comments or suggestions. If you missed any of the issues from the past year, you can download them from our Web site at www.impactnews.com.
