Award for Planning Ordinance
The Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association presented the 2006 Current Planning Award to the City of Leander for the increasingly recognized Composite Zoning Ordinance authored by Senior Planner David Hutton. Leander officials received the award at the Omni Bayfront Conference Center in Corpus Christi in recognition of the ordinance that changes the fundamental structure of zoning districts to provide for use, site and architectural components, which can be mixed and matched as appropriate to the context of the site.
1. Imports Store Relocating

2. Special Event Center Opens
FountainGlenn, a new event center at 2222 Downing Lane, celebrated their grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 9. Located near FM 1431 and Parmer Lane, the facility is designed to host presentations, parties, weddings, banquets, seminars and conventions. For information, call 259-3233 or visit their website.
TV Show Seeks Cast in Leander
The TV show “Cash in the Attic” USA, on the Home and Garden Network, is coming to Texas and wants to cast families for their program. Expert appraisers will come to selected houses and help participants get the best prices for attic items at auction. 3. Community Celebration
Leander Community Club will host their annual Christmas celebration Dec. 2. Local vendor booths will open in Old Town Leander at 1 p.m., followed by a parade from Municipal Drive to City Hall beginning at 5 p.m. Contact Sharon Stegall at 259-9119 for information.
Attendees are encouraged to bring unwrapped gifts for the Blue Santa drive. Parents can bring cameras and photograph their children at Santa’s sleigh while dropping off donations.
Dance and music groups will perform during the day, with a live nativity scene that will be set up in the evening.
At 6:45 p.m., the City will host the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Old Town Plaza, which will include caroling, hayrides, a visit from Santa Claus and the showing of a Christmas movie.
