1. Spring Fling Mutt Strut
The Humane Society of Williamson County will be hosting a Spring Fling Mutt Strut, April 29 from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. After the one mile walk, there will be music by Blake and Fallon, food, entertainment, pet vendors, low cost microchipping and vaccinations, a dog photo contest, raffle and silent auction and dog agility demonstrations. Walkers can bring their own dogs or rent one for $5. Pre-registration is $15 and registration the day of is $20 per person. For more information, call 260-3602.
New Schools This Fall
Leander Independent School District recently announced the name of the new schools opening in the fall. Two elementary schools were named Jim Plain Elementary and William J. Winkley Elementary and a middle school was named Bernice Knox Wiley Middle School. A new high school will also open Fall 2008 and names are being considered. 2. Retail Center Coming Soon
Commons at Crystal Falls is a new retail center that will begin leasing space in August. Located at Crystal Falls Pkwy. and Bagdad Road, the new center will be anchored by a Walgreens and will offer spaces from 1,300 to 6,500 sq. ft. 3. Library Relocating
The library will be moving in September to a 17,215 sq. ft. facility under construction off South Bagdad Rd. The new library will have a conference room, coffee shop, large meeting room, a storyhour room, full internet capabilities and a new integrated library system. The building was approved in the 2004 city bond elections. For more information, visit www.leander.lib.tx.us.
4. Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will?
The Way Off Broadway Community Players, an all-volunteer, nonprofit corporation, will be performing the Texas play, “Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will?” written by Del Shores and directed by Meredith Morales. The production will show at 10960 E. Crystal Falls, April 14-29. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. For tickets or reservations, call 336-8966.
5. HCCM Golf Tournament
The Hill Country Community Ministries Golf Tournament will be April 24, at Point Venture Golf Course in Point Venture, Texas. Check-in is at 7:45 a.m. and shot gun start is at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served after the tournament and prizes given away. The cost is $50 per person.
