1. Ground Broken for Regional Water System
The cities of Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock recently celebrated the ground-breaking of a regional water system located at the water tower near the intersection of New Hope Rd. and Blockhouse Dr. The pipeline will connect more than 15 miles of pipe, which will deliver water from Lake Travis. The system will include raw water pumping and transmission lines, a treatment plant and treated water transmission lines. The project will be constructed in phases, and when completed, will cost $250 million and have a capacity of 106 million gallons of water per day.
2. Annual Chamber of Commerce Picnic
Join the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce at its annual picnic, June 16, from 4 - 9 p.m. at Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd. The event is open to Chamber members and the City of Cedar Park. Employees, family members and staff are also invited. Free hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring side dishes. Scheduled activities will include a moonwalk, face painting, and contests. This year’s event sponsors include Wal-Mart, Cartwright’s BBQ, Renaissance Austin Hotel and Ryan Connor State Farm Agency.
3. East Park Street Open
The new four-lane road extension of East Park Street officially opened April 27. East Park Street provides east-west access between US 183 and Vista Ridge Blvd. The new roadway also provides improved access for emergency responders to the area, saving as much as two minutes in response time to Vista Ridge High School from Fire Station One.
4. Brown Hearing Centers Cuts Ribbon
Brown Hearing Centers celebrated the opening of its newest store at 930 S. Bell Blvd., Ste. 403, with an event that included a ribbon cutting, light lunch and complimentary hearing tests. According to David Brown, owner, the newest store joins a chain of others throughout Texas and Louisiana, specializing in hearing testing and custom-fit digital hearing aids. Brown Hearing Center is the first specialty hearing center for Cedar Park.
City Finalizes Logo
Even though the official voting is over, individuals with critical input regarding any of the four proposed logos for Cedar Park are encouraged to email their suggestions to Mike McKinnon, public information officer at mckinnon@ci.cedar-park.tx.us. The logo receiving the most votes will be revised by the advertising agency based on public input and presented to the City Council for approval on May 25. Cedar Park residents are encouraged to visit www.ci.cedar-park.tx to view the four proposed designs and learn the background on the concepts behind them, ranging from the city’s history to its future achievements.
