Leadership Award

The Central Texas Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (CTGCSA) recognized Wayne Slaton of Crystal Falls Golf Club as the 2005 Superintendent of the Year. In the past three years of working for Crystal Falls, Slaton has greatly improved the facility and its reputation. He has represented CTGCSA by maintaining a high standard of golf course conditions and acting as a leader within the industry and community.

Games of Texas

The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s Games of Texas will be July 21-23 and July 27-30 at various locations in Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander. AT&T was named the title sponsor last month. The opening ceremony will be July 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Round Rock ISD Athletic Complex, 10211 West Parmer Ln. 1. New Jewelry Store

Burt Witcher Jewelers, 107 N. U.S. Hwy 183, opened June 26. Store hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. 2. Summer Projects

Hill Country Community Ministries, 1005 Lacy Dr., will conduct several projects this summer. It is seeking donations for its food pantry as well as collecting school supplies. They ask for box fans to help with the heat and money for a shoe program which gives vouchers to purchase a new pair of shoes for each child in a family. National Night Out

Turn your porch lights on for the 23rd Annual National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 6-10 p.m., to spread the message that crime will not be tolerated. Neighbors and communities nationwide will be participating to improve the safety on their blocks by gathering together. The Leander Police Department plans to use this event to pass on information about anti-crime programs and drug prevention awareness. 3. Concert Series

The Old Town Leander Concert Series kicked off July 7, with a performance by local bluegrass band, the Piney Grove Ramblers. The six-month concert series will feature a new band every first Friday of the month from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy free music on the outdoor stage of Old Town Plaza at the corner of Willis and Brushy Street. The Ryan Davis Band is scheduled to play, Aug. 4. For more information call Sharon Stegall at 259-9119.
