National Fallen Firefighters FoundationCEDAR PARK

1. 31-cent scoop night

Baskin Robbins, 1540 Cypress Creek Road, will host 31-cent scoop night April 30 from 5-10 p.m. Teaming up with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Baskin Robbins will discount ice cream to honor America’s firefighters and give the community an opportunity to donate to local fire charities. 2. Nail salon

3. Railyard expansions

Several stores in the Railyard Shopping Center, 601 E. Whitestone Blvd., have expanded their businesses. Cedar Park Jewelry - 259-9430 - is now located in Suite 112. Collectible Caboose - 259-9494 - now has more space in Suite 304. Simply Irresistible, located in Suite 700, expanded into more space and can be reached at 528-8343.

4. Too hot to handle

Offering haircuts for men, women and children, Too Hotties Haircuts is open at 700 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 105. The hair salon makes waiting comfortable with reclining massage chairs, a pool table, multiple flat screen televisions and a peanut butter and jelly bar. A stand-up tanning booth is also available. 5. Chamber golf tournament

The 8th annual Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce golf tournament is scheduled for May 5 at Twin Creeks Country Club, 3201 Twin Creeks Club Drive. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Registration is $125 per player or $500 per team and includes greens fees, cart, box lunch, dinner and one drink ticket. 6. Help with dyslexia

Dyslexia Solutions, 1605 Colton Way, recently opened in Cedar Park and helps those with dyslexia, ADD and ADHD. Dyslexia Solutions uses the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program, a week-long, one-on-one training program that teaches skills and techniques to help individuals with learning difficulties. 7. BBQ cook-off

The first ever Cedar Chopper Barbecue Cook-off is slated for May 10 on the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center grounds, 1401 Medical Parkway. Prizes will be awarded to the top chefs in the following categories: brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken, beans and cook’s choice. 8. New York pies

Yaghi’s New York Pizzeria is now open and serving classic, hand-tossed thin crust pizzas with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces. The restaurant’s fourth location, 920 N. Vista Ridge Blvd., also serves calzones, sub sandwiches and salads. For pick-up and delivery, call 260-1010.

9. Office supplies

The Office Depot at 850 N. Bell Blvd. held a ribbon cutting April 3 and is officially open for business. Open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Contact the store at 257-0493.

10. Family of mechanics

Franchisees Stephen and Barbara Berry have opened their second Christian Brothers Automotive in Cedar Park at 906 N. Vista Ridge Blvd. The full-service automotive repair shop prides itself on honesty and integrity and has more than 50 stores nation-wide. 11. Get juiced

Bringing a wide selection of smoothies and new breakfast options, Jamba Juice is set to open in 1890 Ranch, 1335 E. Whitestone Blvd. The national juice retailer is aiming for an April 22 grand opening.

12. Stand at attention

For those looking to get in shape, Warriors Fitness offers a unique approach. Instructor John Miles was in the Marine Corps for 20 years and leads fun, enjoyable workouts with a boot camp feel tailored for men and women of all fitness levels. 13. Kids’ triathlon

14. Popcorn in the park

The Leander Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging people to get outside and enjoy the fresh air by giving away free popcorn at Robin Bledsoe Park, 601 S. Bagdad Road. Weather permitting, popcorn will be available each Friday in April from 2-4 p.m. For more information, call 528-9909.

15. Food with history

Kay and Wayne Mueller recently opened Moody’s Café at 309 N. US 183. The business is named after Kay’s grandfather Mood Wiley, who was an early pioneer in Leander. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves homemade dishes made from scratch. Live music on the outdoor porch adds to the atmosphere on weekends. 16. Giving away scholarships

The Norton Moses Masonic Lodge, 201 Sonny Drive, will hold the sixth annual scholarship golf tournament May 17 at the Crystal Falls Country Club, 3400 Crystal Falls Pkwy. The entry fee is $80 and includes greens fees, cart, goodie bag, lunch and prizes. All proceeds benefit the lodge’s college scholarship fund, which has been supporting local high school students for more than 20 years. For more information, call 259-0278.

17. New private school

Employing the university model school system, Sterling Classical School is now enrolling for the fall semester. The system incorporates traditional classroom learning with home education and is less expensive than typical private schools. 18. Coffee house

Coffee retailer Starbucks has set its sights on Leander as the location for its newest store. The shop will be located on US 183 just south of Crystal Falls Parkway on the west side of the road. No timeline has been set for construction.

19. Chiropractor

Dr. Jon Group has moved his practice from Westlake to 1901 S. US 183, Ste. C. Pain Relief Center opened in early March, and uses the new DRX9000 decompression machine to treat herniated discs. 20. Horse rides

Open My World Therapeutic Riding Center recently opened at 1020 CR 270 in Leander, and is available to serve special needs children ages 5 to 14. Therapeutic horse riding improves the lives and fuctionality of special needs individuals. For more information, call 259-6665.
