Williamson County is launching a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties that offers an average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. County residents do not have to be Medicare beneficiaries to be eligible for this program. The cards are accepted at 54 pharmacies in the county. A national network of more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor the NACo prescription discount card.

Starting July 1, cards will be available at all Williamson County and Cities Health District clinic locations, most participating pharmacies, and many other locations. For a list of sites where you may pick up a card, and participating pharmacies, visit www.wcchd.org.

"Williamson County is proud to be participating in this nationwide program with NACo," Williamson County Judge Dan Gattis said. "The NACo prescription discount card will greatly benefit the residents of this county by offering significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured. Even those with a health plan can save money on prescriptions not covered by their plan."

There is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Williamson County to make these money saving cards available to residents.

"Using the NACo prescription discount card is easy," said Dr. James Morgan, Executive Director of WCCHD. "Simply present it at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance."
