Phase 3 of the Williamson County Brushy Creek Regional Trail is now underway after the July 11 ground breaking at Twin Lakes Park.

This phase, 2.7 miles long, will extend the trail in Cedar Park from Brushy Creek Lake Park to Twin Lakes Park.

"This phase is anticipated to be one of the most scenic parts of the trail," said Williamson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long, in a news release.

The concrete trail is 10 feet wide and includes five pedestrian bridges. Other portions of the trail stagger concrete and gravel sections. Though the original plan for the trail was an eight-mile stretch from Round Rock to Cedar Park, the new vision is a 30-mile trail connecting Sandy Creek Park on Lake Travis to Hutto.

Construction of Phase 3 will cost $1.8 million and is expected to be complete by spring 2009. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department granted $517,023 for the project, which also received $150,000 each from Austin and Cedar Park. Williamson County funded the remaining costs from its parks account.
