The Leander Educational Excellence Foundation awarded seven Innovative Teaching Excellence Grants to teachers in Leander ISD Aug. 29.
Teachers were surprised in their classrooms by LEEF grant patrol with balloons, a giant cookie and a check for the amount of the grant. The LEEF grant patrol was comprised of members of LEEF, the LISD Board of trustees and administration, elected officials and local VIPs who traveled throughout the district on a school bus to personally deliver the awards.
"This is our second year to award grants to Leander ISD teachers," Jim Nosler, President of the LEEF Board said. "Last year we awarded just under $14,000 grants to six teachers. This year we are awarding seven grants totaling $17,375."
Teachers were required to write their own grant request and were chosen based on their needs. The seven recipients included the following teachers:
- Ellen Pruitt and Donna Brady, Winkley Elementary - $600 - Creating Cross Curricular Comprehension
- Paula McClain, Cox Elementary - $611 - Artistic Endeavors
- Erin Garner - $3500 - Preschool Academy / Lending Library / Young Parent Meetings
