Capital of Texas Highway, From Us 183 to 2222

In the Texas highway system a loop is a road that serves as a connection between highways. Loop 360 connects RM 2222, US 183 and MoPac. However most people know the road, finished in the 80s, simply as Capital of Texas Highway.
Despite the area around it being included into the city’s drinking water protection zone, the scenic land along Capital of Texas Highway remains a desirable area for high-end homes and office buildings. Water from Bull Creek, which runs perpendicular to the road, eventually finds its way to Lake Austin, where the city draws some of its drinking water. One of Capital of Texas Highway’s most scenic views is the ride under the rust-colored Pennybacker Bridge. For more information on the Pennybacker Bridge, look for the history section in our April next month’s issue.
