General Manager's Note - May 2008

Photo of Traci RodriguezThe advantage of a new home purchase over a resale is the fact that everything is new. After our recent move into our first home, my husband and I celebrated the fact that our costs after move in would be minimal since we thought there would be no repairs or improvements needed. Then, we began making our list.

Window treatments came first and next, the garage door opener, landscaping and decorator paint. After a few heavy rains we understood the importance of gutters. One by one the expenses roll in and our dream of purchasing a new master bedroom set has been replaced with a very long list of basic home needs.

Our most frequent stop on the way home each day is the local hardware store. I quickly came to know the owner at the Hardware Store on Spicewood Springs where shopping is a unique and educating experience, especially for us do-it-yourselfers.

Out of curiosity, I checked to see what other local hardware stores could be found in the Northwest Austin area and was surprised there are so few. My quest to search and shop locally as I gather supplies and instructions for our ongoing home projects sparked the idea for our home improvement guide.

As we continue to strive towards including useful information each month, your feedback is welcomed and appreciated. I hope you will put us at the top of your list to let us know how we’re doing.
