General Manager’s Note — December 2007

My husband and I moved into our first house in September, and we are thrilled to be “home” for the holidays. Although my mother keeps telling me to wait until the infamous after-Christmas sales for additional holiday décor, and my husband keeps comparing me to the Griswold’s of the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie, I continue to run to my local retailer for just one more thing to complete my winter wonderland.

As stories develop on the page for each issue, our publisher is known for asking one question, “Where’s the map?” This issue discusses in detail annexation of the unclaimed land outside Austin city limits and how readers might be affected. The map is definitely a big part of this story and presents a clear picture of the future annexation plans in and around Northwest Austin.

Our publisher, editor and an assistant editor recently had the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. to spend a day in the life with two U.S. Representatives--John Carter and Michael McCaul. We thought it was important for you to know your Representatives and have some insight as to how they spend their time on any given day. One of their topics of real concern is how immigration affects the people of Central Texas. These men have their work cut out for them, and although it was fascinating to peek in for a moment, I personally would not want to walk in their shoes every day.

On a lighter note, literally, if you’re looking forward to the bright lights this season, just squint and look north; you’ll see my house in the distance. This is my favorite time of year, and I hope you are spending it with your loved ones and looking forward to 2008. Thanks for inviting Community Impact Newspaper into your home for the holidays.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy News Year,

Traci M. Rodriguez
