Photo of Traci RodriguezAs Community Impact Newspaper continues to grow, we are looking for talent as positions become available. With several open positions I expected the resumes to pour in, but was surprised by the lack of resumes. I understand now more than ever it is important with a growing economy like Austin’s to keep the focus on our education system so there will be employees ready as companies grow.

At a recent Central Texas growth summit I listened to Kirk Watson speak on the economy. Austin is below the national unemployment rate and Watson said, “We need a lot of people to keep this economic engine humming.”

As we approach the end of Black History Month there’s no better way to celebrate than to recognize the first African American Austin City Manager, Marc Ott. He takes a moment to discuss his plans for the city on page 29.

As we head into the spring, Community Impact has big plans for April. I look forward to sharing those plans with you next month and hearing your feedback.
