1. Gelato shop at Anderson Arbor
Piccomolo Ice Cream will be opening its first Austin store at the Anderson Arbor shopping center at Anderson Mill Road and Research Boulevard on April 27. This Italian gelato chain was founded by UT students, and although the company has shops around the nation this is their first Austin location. For more information, visit www.piccomolo.com.
2. The Market at Wells Branch
Aiming for a summer opening, Dollar General Market will open at 13801 N. MoPac Expressway at the corner of Wells Branch and MoPac in the old Albertson’s grocery store. Dollar General Market carries everything their traditional stores carry, as well as an expanded food section including fresh produce and meat. National American University, a comprehensive technical and professional institution, will take over 20,000 sq. ft. of classroom space in the Market at Wells Branch. 3. Sushi in the Arboretum
Bambu Sushi is set to move into the vacant Dan McKlusky’s in the Arboretum. Situated between Serrano’s and TGI Friday’s, Bambu Sushi is anticipated to open this June.
4. Arbor Walk Fills In
Stores continue to fill the Arbor Walk shopping center at 10515 N. MoPac. The newest additions include Alfred Angelo and Avenue. Alfred Angelo is a bridal store that opened March 23. For more information call 342-2432. Avenue, a plus size clothing store, is set to open at the end of April.
5. New Deli Supports Charity
The Spicy Pickle deli will hold its grand opening April 28 at the northeast corner of US 183 and Lakeline Mall Dr. The charity event will benefit the Pulmonary Hypertension Association with 25 percent of all sales going toward the organization. For more information, call 636-6725.
6. Discount Shoe Chain Opens

7. Sports Fields Get Facelift
Town and County Optimist Club is concluding a five year replacement and expansion of the T&C Sports Complex facilities. The $1.5 million-plus construction projects provide families with an increase of 700 paved parking spots, two new restrooms, three new concession buildings, and new creek crossings for improved access. Also, lighting is added to four more fields. T&C will now shift its focus to refurbishing existing facilities. Improvements are planned to include existing lighting and fencing, improved fan seating/access, painting, and the resurfacing of parking areas. 8. Former Home Depot Replaced
Target will replace the former Home Depot at 10107 Research Blvd. at the corner of Great Hills Trail. Endeavor Real Estate is overseeing the conversion and was not available to comment on an opening date.
9. First National Bank
First National Bank will celebrate the grand opening of their newest location at the beginning of May at 1801 W. Parmer Lane at the intersection of Metric Boulevard and Parmer Lane. For more information, visit www.webfnb.com.
10. Exercise Equipment Store Expands
Located in Braker Village at the Southeast corner of Braker Lane and Research Boulevard, Fitness in Motion is taking over the 3,600 sq. ft. left open after Eyemasters moved to the Arbor Walk. Construction on the expansion began in mid-April with a tentative June 1 move-in date. The expansion will leave 2,000 sq. ft. available for lease. 11. New Starbucks Up in The Air
There is a proposal for a Starbucks to move into the long abandoned Exxon station at the northeast corner of Mopac and Wells Branch. Developer John Lewis said that at the last minute Starbucks was reviewing plans again because they feel the proposed location is not on the “going to work” side of the street and that the area would not support a Starbucks.
