1. Rundberg extension
The city council has approved up to $6.64 million, combined with the $1.6 million from the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, to extend Rundberg Lane from Metric Boulevard to Burnet Road.
2 . Diagnostic clinic expansion
The Austin Diagnostic Clinic broke ground this month on a new facility adjacent to the main building at 12221 N. MoPac. The 32,000 sq. ft. ADC Primary Care will open in July 2008 and will house 13 pediatricians and 10 family practitioners. ADC will be relocating its EasyCare walk-in clinic to the Primary Care building.
3. New Arboretum tenant
Austin-based company Heather Scott Home & Design celebrates its grand opening this month in the Arboretum at Great Hills Trail, Ste. 103. The boutique features home accessories, furnishings and gifts. For more information call 342-6899 or visit www.heatherscotthome.com.
4. Boutique opening
Boutique and salon, Selma’s will host a grand opening event at its shop at 7119 McNeil Road. Selma’s will offer food, drinks and a sneak peek of new inventory Oct. 7 from 5 until 8 p.m. For more information, call 249-8900.
5. Choir sings movie classics
The McNeil High School Choir will hold its most important performance, and biggest fund-raiser, of the year Oct. 18, 19 and 20 at the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center. The show’s theme is “Reel Music”, featuring songs from films such as “Westside Story” and “Wayne’s World.” Tickets are $8 and can be purchased, cash only, the night of the performance. 6. Big fish
McCormick & Schmick’s seafood restaurant celebrated its grand opening at the Domain, 11600 Century Oaks Terrace, Ste. 100 Aug. 27 with a ceremonial “fish toss,” passing a fresh fish from hand to hand between owners, managers and chefs. 7. A toast to good health
The Northwest Austin Circle of Friends, a non-profit group that helps raise financial support for the Dell Children’s Medical Center, will host its 9th annual Cheers for Children event Oct. 11, at the Dell Jewish Community Campus at 7300 Hart Lane. The event will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature food, a silent and live auction and wine provided by Twin Liquors. Tickets can be purchased at the Circle of Friends Website. 8. Murchison through the decades
Murchison Middle School will recognize its 40th anniversary this year, and will be celebrating the event Oct. 9-14 with five themed parties. The school will revisit the decades they’ve experienced with three parties Oct. 9, 10 and 11 themed for the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, respectively. The school will offer two Murchison history lessons Oct. 12 at 8:30 and 9 a.m., and on Oct. 14 will host a family picnic from 1 to 3 p.m. Past and present students, faculty and parents are invited, but tickets must be purchased in advance for the barbeque. 9. Financial firm opens
Genworth, a new financial advisory firm, opened in September at 8701 W. Parmer Lane, Ste. 1119. The firm offers such services as retirement, education, business and estate planning. Genworth also arranges free lunch and dinner workshops with groups who would like to know more about financial planning. For more information, call 669-2448.
10. Grocery store switch
H-E-B announced Sept. 12 plans to acquire the store in Northwest Austin on Research Boulevard. From now until early November, Albertsons will continue to operate its area stores as the company winds down its local presence. By early November, H-E-B will take possession of the locations and reopen them by early December. H-E-B plans to double the staff size at the new stores and will hold internal job fairs for Albertsons employees.
11. Hike & bike trail
The City has published a map of the completion of the Walnut Creek hike-and- bike trail, running from the Balcones District Park to Walnut Creek Park. 12. Voter registration deadline
October 9 is the last day for voters to register for the November 6 election. The November election will feature 16 amendments to the Texas constitution. Some of the amendments include allowing the Texas Water Development Board, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas and the Texas Transportation Commission to issue bonds. 13. Bank breaks ground
International Bancshares Corporation, or IBC as it is more widely known, will open a new location at the corner of Burnet Road and Braker Lane early next year. Summer rain delayed the bank's construction but IBC expects to be open within the first quarter of 2008. Located close to the Domain shopping center, this IBC location will offer seven-day service.
