State of Texas
Proposed state constitutional amendment for property tax relief for elderly and disabled:
- In 2005 the state legislature approved a one third reduction in school property taxes. However, the property tax of the elderly and disabled is capped, so while their property tax cannot increase it also did not proportionately decrease with the approved reduction. This amendment remedies the legislative oversight by letting the elderly and disabled share in the reduction.
