Built in the mid ‘70s, the Spicewood Springs and 183 shopping center has seen its share of retailers come and go. The mix has gone from big box stores such as Safeway, Winns and Weiner’s, to the center’s current blend of small, independent businesses. Owner Nelson Pruett attributes the center’s current mix to the affordable rates he keeps. “There are plenty of Endeavor and Trammell Crow (real estate) developments out there if that’s what people want, but this shopping center is simple and affordable.”
