Round Rock Travel and Tours was included in the inaugural Aggie 100, a list of the fastest growing companies owned and operated by former students, Oct. 2005.
Will Peckham, CEO, is a 1993 Texas A&M graduate and has worked for his father, Bill Peckham, Round Rock Travel and Tours president, since 1997.
“There were over 700 entries and we were in the top 100 in the world,” Will said. “We feel pretty good about that one.”
The Aggie 100 recognized companies in business for five years or more, had verifiable revenues of $100,000 or more for 2002, and were consistent with the Aggie Code of Honor.
Despite easy-to-book online travel, Round Rock Travel and Tours has kept up with the industry.
“Sixty percent of the time we beat online travel,” Will said. “The internet doesn’t give people as many options of what airline to fly or information like how many layovers they will have.”
Bill bought the business in 1983, and relocated in 1986 to their present location on Round Rock Avenue.
Today, Bill serves as the president and his wife, Sissy is bookkeeper. Their son, Will became CEO three years ago and his wife, Kiki is manager.
“A friend of mine said this industry would be fun, and we like to travel,” Bill said. “We still love the business; don’t know what else I’d be doing if I wasn’t doing this.”
It’s not just the immediate family that makes their business a family, but some of their employees and customers have been with Round Rock Travel and Tours for 20 years.
“Here you can build relationships,” Kiki said. “We have a lot of repeat business and when it comes down to it, people still want to talk to someone about their travel.”
Scott Swindell, co-owner of two local Dominos Pizzas, as well as co-owner for CheckSmart Recovery has been booking his corporate travel for Dominos Pizza for the last 15 years, CheckSmart Recovery for the last four, as well as his personal leisure travel.
“I love the personal service you get, and its nice to hand our travel needs over to someone who knows what you need, especially when you’re busy running your own business,” Swindell said. “They really take care of us.”
