Downtown style with hometown prices
Mary Neubauer was planning her June wedding when three weeks before “the” night, her hair stylist canceled. Frantically, she began her search for another stylist to do not only her hair, but her six bridesmaids as well. Her search ended the day she walked into Jagged Edge.
“The other stylists and I pulled together, rescheduled a few of our appointments and were able to do their hair and makeup,” owner, Brandi Cabral said. “Mary has been coming to me ever since. It’s all about customer service. I like to make people happy, and I know how important your wedding day is.”
Cabral graduated in 2000 from the Baldwin School of Beauty and worked at a local salon for five years before opening Jagged Edge. They say, good things come to those who wait and finding a location for her new salon was one of those ‘good’ things.
“We looked for six months before we found this place. I’m so blessed to have found such a good location, right in the middle of downtown,” Cabral said. “The house used to be an engineer’s office, with blue carpet and stone walls. We painted all the walls, installed hardwood floors and made it a pretty space.”
The salon started with three stylists, but now includes seven. They celebrate their one-year anniversary in October and are planning something special for their clients to express their appreciation.
“It’s their choice where they go to get their hair done, and we recognize and appreciate that they come to us. Our clients know all of the stylists, not just the one who is doing their hair,” Cabral said. “We’re like one big family here.”
Cabral says that the most requested service is for highlights, which Jagged Edge offers but for lower prices than found in upscale Austin salons.
“People go downtown for the name of the salon and its location, but honestly, the quality of our work is the same,” Cabral said. “Clients want to do things close to home without spending a ton of money and that’s where we come in.”
There are five salons within walking distance to Jagged Edge and yet Jagged Edge has managed to stay very busy.
“We have days that if you were to walk in, we would not be able to fit you in,” Cabral said. “There is no other salon like this in Pflugerville. Our location and the beauty of the salon is what still brings new people in.”
