The Texas Department of Transportation will be closing four ramps and relocating two ramps on North IH 35 at the end of this year. The McNeil exit and entrance ramps will be closed, as well as the Hesters Crossing entrance ramp and the Business 35 exit ramp. TxDot engineer Bob Daigh explained at a meeting held at Round Rock’s City Hall auditorium, Feb. 21., that the ramps must be closed for the safety of drivers because of weaving traffic that will occur when SH 130 is built. The new tollway will be adding direct connectors or flyovers that require additional road space.

The City of Round Rock will be using monies collected from sales tax to fund a $10 million expansion at the Hesters Crossing intersection. They will be adding two lanes and a turnaround to alleviate traffic that will occur because of the closing of the four ramps on IH 35. Along with widening the Hesters Crossing bridge, they will also be connecting South Mays to Dell Way as soon as construction on the SH 130 is completed. Construction for the new tollway is expected to be finished earlier than planned. The City plans to begin work sooner at the new intersection at the request of worried citizens and business owners.
