Transportation Report: A.W. Grimes Road Projects

Round Rock City Council began the process of renaming FM 1460 with a 6-1 vote last month to change the road to A.W. Grimes Blvd. In order for the name to officially change, two-thirds or more of the property owners with postal addresses on FM 1460 must approve the change. Votes are weighed by the amount of linear feet the voter owns along the road. The change is expected to be determined by the end of this month.
State funded project to extend 1460 (A.W. Grimes) north from Hwy 79 to Hwy 29 in Georgetown. Will be done in three phases.
- Hwy 79 to Old Settlers Road will be a 5 lane roadway; to be contracted by September 2007.
- Old Settlers Road to Hwy 29 will be 4 lane roadway with a grassy median and will be completed in 2 phases; will be contracted in 2008 or early 2009.
Phase 2 of this project which began in October 2001 is working toward construction of a new six-lane divided road with miscellaneous utility and drainage improvements from Lake Creek to US 79. The project also includes construction of a new Union Pacific Railroad underpass for Brushy Creek.Funded by the city of Round Rock. Completion scheduled for March 2007.
South of SH 45, CR 170 being renamed A.W. Grimes. Area south of Edville Lane to county line remains a two-lane road. Williamson County has not announced plans to improve this area.
Grand Avenue Parkway road improvement is finished. Funded by the City of Pflugerville. North of Pflugerville Parkway named A.W. Grimes for ease of exiting SH 45.
