In recent weeks, several readers have inquired about the status of businesses coming to this expanding development of retail. Rumors circulate, but the businesses we can confirm for the record are listed in the Future Land Use section below.
History
1. In the 1850s, the Chandler family owned land beside what was Chandler Road and is now named University Boulevard.
The Chandler Branch School was located where Scott & White University Medical Campus is now. It opened in the mid-1850s, but closed in 1913 when Caldwell Heights School was built.
Business
2. Streamline Technical Services provides logistics, screening and repair service of computers, peripherals, tape drives and automation.
3. Hi-Rise Balloons is a balloon distributor that has certified balloon artists on staff.
4. Hotlink is a full-service, creative promotional merchandising company.
5. Prudential Cleanroom Services (PCS) specializes in cleanroom garment processing services for particulate and ESD controlled environments.
6. DataMax offers software solutions and services exclusively to convenience store and petroleum industries.
7. Hospira is a specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company that develops, manufactures and markets products to improve the productivity, safety and effectiveness of patient care.

12. University Oaks Shopping Center is in the process of building and expanding to include Pet Smart, Ross, Specs, Famous Footwear, REI, Office Max and sandwich shops. Some shops are expected to open by August.
13. Steak n’ Shake will serve burgers, sandwiches, salads, chili, and shakes when the restaurant opens this spring.
14. The French restaurant, La Madeleine, will feature a bakery, serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offer catered party trays and boxed lunches. It is planned to open in March.
15. Construction began on a commercial development that will include MiMi's Cafe (scheduled to open in July), Compass Bank, 1200 sq. ft. of retail space and another 12.000 sq.ft. of space that has yet-to-be-determined.
