Café Java - Round Rock

Neighborhood establishment refuge for friends and family
Each time I visit Café Java, I expect to see Kramer or George or one of the Seinfeld gang sitting in a booth in the corner. This is truly a neighborhood establishment where you can pop in for a really good cup of coffee, or espresso and a snack or have breakfast any time of the day.
Café Java has been open at this location for about two years, but owner Matt Lacey has operated its sister restaurant on Metric Boulevard near Austin Community College for 11 years. Helping in the Round Rock business is his mother Carol Williams, who everyone calls “Mom” and who has more than 50 years of restaurant experience.
Many of our Sunday mornings are spent at Café Java enjoying the migas, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. The Migas ($6.19) are served with hash browns, bacon and flour tortillas, and are covered with cheddar cheese (something many restaurants ignore, but really adds to the flavor).
The most popular breakfast is The Java, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, hash browns, toast, and includes coffee or tea. ($5.49) Many types of omelets are available. Choose from sausage, ham, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, avocado and more. ($6.79) Like Jerry Seinfield, you can also order an egg-whites only omelet.
For the vegetarian or diet-conscious, they offer a good selection of sandwiches and salads. The Avocado Grilled Cheese sandwich is White Swiss and American cheese with fresh sliced avocado, tomatoes and sprouts served on grilled whole grain bread. ($5.69) The Grilled Chicken Caesar salad is sliced grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese and croutons, topped with a creamy traditional Caesar dressing with just a hint of anchovy. ($6.49)
Community Impact’s editor has been a loyal customer of the original Café Java since it opened. She and our staff writer, also a long time fan, say it is the simple, always well-prepared food that keeps them coming back. One of our favorites is the Grilled Turkey & Cheese Sandwich, a fresh, smoked turkey and cheese served on grilled whole grain bread. ($4.99)
Monday is Mom’s Meatloaf Madness featuring Mom’s favorite meatloaf recipe with homemade mashed potatoes and green beans. ($6.99) Wednesday’s special is Italian cuisine with homemade lasagna or meat balls and spaghetti. ($6.99)
Diners can also enjoy a choice of desserts to savor with that cup of java, or to finish your meal. The Red Velvet cake or the Key Lime pie ($3.75) are hard to resist.
