Things are always going on around us to keep our content fresh, relevant and informative. Our lead stories this issue cover the three things important to the quality of life that remain a constant - to live, work and play in our communities.

How the city and developers set up a community and neighborhood are important considerations before buying a home. As new municipal utility districts continue to develop, we want to keep readers abreast of the new developments and their impact on the city. The long-established Brushy Creek MUD is a big part of our distribution area, and readers will be interested in its plans for a new direction.

The Esplanade project being considered just west of Pflugerville near Wells Branch will impact our entire area. There are plans for two major hotels, entertainment venues, retail and office space.

A big question being posed in the construction and development circles is, “Are we overbuilding retail?” The rapid growth of the area’s population along with the generally good economy has developers doing all they can to get their projects on the ground.

Voters approved the building of a new Round Rock recreation center in 2001. As the project plans develop five years later, debate over how big, where and who will be in charge is causing controversy between citizens and officials.

Our purpose is to provide you the information to help you make up your own mind – but this is a story that has some controversy brewing – and that has neighborhoods paying attention to how it is handled.

As our company has now hit the Volume 2 milestone, it is our commitment to continue to explore and explain important issues.

We thank you for welcoming our paper into your home and office and for taking the time to e-mail and call us to let us know you appreciate it. Our mission is the same today as it was a year ago: to provide a paper that is local, useful and free!
