Even though I went to Pflugerville schools, my home was a part of the district located across IH 35 in the area I call Northwest Austin. Since we launched this paper a year and a half ago, I began noticing that the area north of Braker Lane stretching west into Great Hills, Anderson Mill and the US 183 corridor was also underrepresented by the news media.

I saw a need for a newspaper that explained development, growth and transportation in that area and could offer local businesses a medium to tell their story to their local market. In February we launched our third publication in this Northwest Austin area.

As our business continues to grow, our accountant has made us aware of new business tax laws. If you haven’t heard much about this yet, it is time to pay attention. At this time of year, everyone focuses on paying 2006 taxes, but 2007 taxes are being calculated now – and you might be surprised at how big an impact this will have on your business.

As I talk to other local business owners, I am amazed at how few of them really know what is going on with this new tax code. It affects everyone – from local homeowners (who hope to see some relief from their school property taxes) to local businesses (who will be paying for this relief) to the consumer (who will likely see some price increases to help ease the new tax burden).

As someone who falls into all three of those categories, I encourage everyone to read this article and contact your tax professional now to see how the new tax laws might impact you.

Although we are growing into new markets, the Round Rock/Pflugerville paper will always be our “flagship” publication. We are appreciative of the opportunity our readers and customers have allowed us to grow and learn from this paper.

If you want to know what is going on in our area- or Cedar Park, Leander, and now Northwest Austin – the single best online resource for local news is our website – www.impactnews.com.
