Photo of Sara AlemanIt is amazing how six short weeks with your first baby can change your perspective on life.

When our staff interviewed the Avery family, whose ancestors have owned land in Round Rock for more than 100 years, they spoke a lot about their history and what they hoped to achieve for future generations using what they have been given. It is apparent that they have thought through their decisions of how to use their 1,200-acre inheritance to build an educational and medical community.

The idea is an interesting one. They have considered the best way to use time, talent and money in order to do the most good for those around them and those who come after them.

Members of the community in Pflugerville are considering similar principles while preparing several bonds for a May ballot to build new public facilities. Although some of the ideas are controversial, namely where to locate city hall, the overall concept is still to make Pflugerville a vibrant, thriving city for generations to come.

I look at my daughter now and realize how important it is to me that she grows up in a place where education, medical and community facilities are constantly being developed and improved. On a personal level, I admire the leadership in our communities.

Although I really enjoyed my time off with my daughter, when I received my own issue in the mail last month, I knew I was missing out on the excitement of bringing the news to readers.

It feels good to be back behind the wheel again.
