ACC looking at Pflugerville ISD
In May, one-third of the Austin residents of PISD and RRISD voted to be added to the ACC taxing district. Local residents and ACC leaders formed a steering committee to explore a future vote to add the remainder of PISD tax payers to the ACC district.
1. Brand new Grand
Phase one of the expansion of Grand Avenue Parkway has been completed, with Phase two in the works. Phase two involves tearing up and rebuilding the old Grand Avenue Parkway, making it a four-lane road. The project should be completed by Spring, 2006.
2. Pfluger Hall for free
Charitable organizations in Travis County have an opportunity to enter a drawing to win the use of Pfluger Hall for one free night. Application letters must be sent to the district office by Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. For more information contact John Grasshoff at 251-2801.
3. A good looking Wal-Mart in Pflugerville
Pflugerville’s 203,000 sq. ft. Wal-Mart opens first quarter, 2007. “The design is a win for Pflugerville because it was jointly developed by a PfCONA community workgroup of neighborhood leaders/residents, Council reps, city staff, and community organization leaders,” Rod Reyna said, PfCONA chair.

Cox pulling out of Pflugerville
Cox Cable is looking to sell their Texas market and is currently in the bidding process with interested parties. Director of Media Relations for Cox Cable, David Grabert said that no changes will occur until the first quarter of 2006.
4. Attention dog lovers
S.N.I.P. Spay. Neuter. Incentive. Program. encourages pet owners to spay and neuter their pets. The owners of DogBoys will host their second annual SNIP Fest Saturday, Oct. 1, from 2-6 p.m. at DogBoys Ranch. A $5 donation is requested from adults; dogs and kids are free. 5. Yellow house
Mangu Cafe Caribbean Restaurant’s grand opening is planned for Sept. 12. “We will offer foods marinated in sour orange, cooked with fresh garlic and herbs that are full of flavor,” said Alex Fernandez, Mangu owner. Go see Alex and his team any day of the week for food that will remind you of a Caribbean cruise.
6. Impressive businesses
The Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce is hosting their annual Business Expo, “Where merchants, community services and families meet.” The Expo showcases the regional business community while featuring public safety organizations and musical performances. The event will be at Austin Park and Pizza from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17. Admission is free to the public.
