Round Rock Chamber of Commerce’s economic development chief and vice president, Scott Martinez, is leaving to take a new job in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Martinez will be the new head of the Vicksburg-Warren Community Alliance, Inc, a 25-member board of trustees representing 14 community organizations.
1. Watch for Construction
As construction of roadway improvements caused by the development on Chandler Road of the Premium Outlets and IKEA, there will be lane closures and a traffic shift. When complete, this project will improve mobility and air quality for not only the citizens of Round Rock, but also the citizens of the region.
2. Fore!
The Angelheart Children’s Shelter will host its third annual golf tournament, March 24, at Forest Creek Golf Course. Angelheart opened in October 2002, to provide a safe haven for abused and neglected children. Contact Heidi Honey at 251-2570 or hhoney@austinrr.com for more information.
3. Simply Moving
Simply Suzi is a store full of home décor and “gifts for all occasions.” The store has been located off Red Bud Lane for the past three years and is moving in March to the new HEB Plus shopping center off Hwy 79. For more information or to start shopping today at www.simplysuzi.com.
4. Giant Discounts
Giant Appliances opened in the Rock Creek Shopping Center, Dec. 26, and will celebrate its grand opening in February. The store is 25,000 sq. ft. with more than 400 different appliances in stock with brands ranging from Maytag, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, GE, Roper, and Jenn- Air. 5. Insurance and Investment
A new life insurance and investment company, Chisholm Trail Financial Group, is now located at 505 E. Palm Valley Blvd. Bruce Bessner is leading four employees in the new agency of New England Financial, that is a part of MetLife, Inc. The group offers financial products and services through 49 offices staffed by nearly 2,000 employees.
6. Texas Road Rash Inline Skating
The third annual Texas Road Rash Inline Skating Marathon will be March 26 at 7:30 a.m. Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department and Hill Country Speed will host the two adult events, recreational and professional, on a closed
loop course around Old Settler’s Park. The entry fee is $50 for a full marathon, $30 for 16K, and $20 for kids under 12. Call 215-5540 to register.
Primary Voting Dates
The last day to register to vote in the Republican and Democratic parties’ primary elections is Feb. 6. Early voting dates and locations are posted on the Williamson County Web site, http://www.wilco.org. Primary voting day is Tuesday, March 7.
