1. Christmas Family Night

The 27th Annual Christmas Family Night in downtown Round Rock will be Dec. 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music, performers, arts and crafts and festivities will kick off the holiday season. Historic Round Rock is decorated with small wooden houses which house various free games and activities. This free event includes activities for the entire family. For the first time, shop arts and crafts in the Family Night market where vendors will display holiday gifts for sale. For more information, call 218-5540.

2. Buns Over Texas

A new restaurant will replace Dickey’s BBQ on Louis Henna Boulevard. Buns Over Texas will open soon and offers hamburgers with meat ground daily. Known for their double cheese fries, Buns Over Texas opened its first restaurant in Amarillo in 1990. Visit www.bunsovertexas.com for more information.

3. New Law Firm

The law firm of McCreary, Veselka, Bragg and Allen will relocate from their Austin office to Amron Run Business Park in north Round Rock by Weed Instruments and the future Harley Davidson at the end of this year. The tax law firm has locations all over Texas and specializes in delinquent property tax collection, debt collections, bankruptcy and property value study appeals. 4. Golf Retail

Edwin Watts Golf celebrated their grand opening Nov. 18 in the Round Rock Crossing shopping center at Louis Henna Boulevard and IH 35. Savvy Award

The City of Round Rock received a national Savvy Award, the highest award, for outstanding government achievement from the City/County Communications and Marketing Association in October. The city received the award for its interactive community visioning for the 10-Year Plan. City officials and staff held ten meetings to educate the public on city departments and budget last year.

Graphic Design & Finger Picking

A graphic design firm of husband and wife team Kelly and Stephana Johnson moved from Los Angeles to Round Rock in October. Sapphire Monkey, named after Stephana’s birth stone and Kelly’s Chinese birth year, offers design expertise for business, product or public personage. 5. It’s All Inside

J.C. Penney Co. Inc. will add a second store along north IH 35 across the street from IKEA on University Drive. Construction began last month on the store expected to be 100,000 sq. ft. sitting on eight acres. JCPenney is the nation’s largest catalog merchant of general merchandise. First Safest City in Texas

According to a national survey of crime statistics for cities with a population of 75,000 or more, Round Rock ranks as the 13th safest city in the U.S. and the first safest city in Texas. The next Texas city listed in the survey was Plano ranked 41st.

“For the second year in a row, this national report validates what we know in Round Rock- our investment in public safety and the professionalism and skill of our police officers have helped create a fantastic place to live, raise a family and run a business,” Mayor Nyle Maxwell said.
