1. Library upgrading Internet public access
The AT&T Foundation awarded the Pfriends Pfor Pflugerville’s Pfuture (Pf4) a $9,458 Excelerator grant to help upgrade the no-cost public access computers and meet the growing public Internet need at the Pflugerville Community Library.
The library reordered 300 copies of Pflugerville: A Heritage to Remember sponsered by the Pflugerville Heritage Society and are on sale there for $15.00.
Local Law Enforcement Course
The 27th Travis County Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy Class begins Feb. 20 and is accepting applications. The course is divided into 13 Tuesday-evening classes where participants learn about the responsibilities of a Sheriff’s deputy and getting involved in the community. 2. Fundraiser Event
The Pflugerville Circle of Pfriends will host a Bingo night March 2 at Pflugerville Lion’s Club Hall on Railroad Avenue. All proceeds go to the Dell Children’s Medical Center. Food is available at 6 p.m. and Bingo starts at 7 p.m. For more information, call Rita Hodde at 278-0866.
3. Arbor Day Activities
In recognition of Arbor Day, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a celebration, Feb. 10 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. The event will take place at Lake Pflugerville on Pflugerville Parkway, and attendees will be able to help plant trees. If planning to attend, please e-mail April Thomas, the city forester, at aprilt@cityofpflugerville.com or call 990-4392. Water and refreshments will be provided, but bring shovels, rakes, gloves (labeled with your name), work clothes and sunscreen.
4. Web Site Design Office
In January, Kim Wendland located TopLineSite to the Central Commerce Office Park at 15901 Central Commerce Dr., Ste. 505. The Web site design company was formed to meet the needs of local and start-up businesses. For more information, visit www.toplinesite.com or call 535-4226.
5. Chinese New Year Celebration
Formosa Art Teahouse, at 200 E. Pecan St., is celebrating the Chinese New Year Festival each Saturday from Feb. 17-March 4 from 2-8 p.m. Festivities include a Chinese KungFu tea demonstration, a Chinese calligraphy presentation, ancient Chinese poetry reading, a concert and a drama. 6. Plaza Accepting Tenants
The Plaza at Grand Avenue, located near IH 35, is accepting leasing applications and has secured a convenience store tenant. Plans call for the 23,500 sq. ft shopping center to open in June, and will include Asian and Mexican food stores, along with medical and dental service offices.
7. Elementary School Anniversary
Springhill Elementary School, 600 S. Heatherwilde Boulevard, will celebrate its 10th year anniversary March 3, 9-11 a.m. Jeff Burnett, former school board president, Randy Reese, the school’s first principal and Charles Dupre, current superintendent, will be present.
