1. Dressed for Pflugerville

The City of Pflugerville is selling T-shirts with the city’s new slogan, “Between a rock and a weird place.” The shirts come in gray or blue with sizes ranging from youth small to adult XXXL. Shirts are $10 for children and $15 for adults. They can be purchased at the finance office, 100 E. Main St., Ste. 100 or at city events.

Vehicle restrictions

Beginning Oct. 1, the City of Pflugerville will begin enforcing a new ordinance, No. 894-07-06-26, which prohibits the parking of certain vehicles and trailers in the front and side yards (including driveways) of residences within the city limits.

These include:

  • Vehicles in excess of 9,000 lbs.
  • Vehicles exceeding 20 linear ft. in length
  • Motor homes
  • Any trailer, semi-trailer, boat trailer, trailer house or other non-motorized device or equipment designed or intended to be towed upon the public streets.

This same ordinance prohibits the parking of any motor vehicle in the side yard setback or front yard without it being parked on a hard surface consisting of concrete, brick or asphalt.

Due to the controversy of the ordinance, the council will revisit the issue. For information, call 252-8469.

2. Tap into a new dance studio

After opening Aug. 13, Dance Elements is offering classes in creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and modern/contemporary dance. The studio is in the Longhorn Business Park at 4674 Priem Lane, Ste. 102. Classes are available for children age 3 and up and adults. For more information, call 990-4700 or visit danceelements.com.

3. Open mic for poetry

Starting Aug. 16, South Flavas Entertainment LLC began hosting the Neo-Soul Lounge and Poetry Reading with an open mic every Thursday at Club Illusion. The club is in Three Points Plaza at 2700 W. Pecan St., Ste. 102. The door opens at 8 p.m. For more information, call 670-7411.

4. Gym opens

Platinum Gymnastics Academy has opened at 1410 Royston Lane. It strives to create competitive opportunities for members of all ages and skill levels to learn gymnastics. 5. Home for retail

The 26,100 sq. ft. Pflugerville Cedars Center at 616 FM 685, was completed in August. The complex is still seeking tenants. Spaces vary in size from 1,200 sq. ft. to 14,000 sq. ft. For more information, visit www.austin-realestate.net or call Don Dungan at 439-3628.

6. Taste of culture

Formosa Art & Tea, 200 E. Pecan St., Ste. 5, is hosting several programs Sept. 22. The public is invited to watch a Chinese martial arts performance by Sifu Sean Gooden and his students from Shaolin Do Kung Fu at 4 p.m. Then at 5 p.m., professional poet Anyah will combine her poetry into song with several Austin musicians. From 7 to 10 p.m., an open mic is available for anyone wanting to share poetry or music. An exhibit from local artist Christian Goebel, an acrylic painter who gets her inspiration from nature, will also be on display. Her paintings will be on site Sept. 19 – Oct. 12.
