New ordinances

The city council approved the reading of two possible ordinances at the Sept. 23 meeting. Both items must be read and approved again before becoming a city ordinance.

Don’t park on the grass

One ordinance would change regulations on vehicle parking on residential lots. If passed, no parking will be allowed on lawns or areas without a city standard driveway. Downtown Round Rock residents who have existing driveways with gravel that are able to be used for parking will be grandfathered into the ordinance.

Picture time

Red light cameras will take pictures of the rear license plates of vehicles that have run a red light. Each incident will be reviewed to ensure no driver is fined for such things as funeral processions or if they were already ticketed by an officer for the offense. If the driver is caught by the camera, it is a civil violation and only a fine is permitted. If the driver is caught by both the camera and an officer, the officer’s ticket trumps the camera and a criminal violation is ticketed.
