ROUND ROCK

1. New police headquarters

The Round Rock Police Department held a ribbon cutting for its new headquarters April 15. The $21.8 million, 123,000 sq. ft. facility is a remodeled warehouse at 2701 N. Mays St. It features energy-saving natural lighting, state-of-the-art equipment and space on site for the city’s Emergency Operations Center. Nearly 40,000 sq. ft. of the headquarters are unused allowing the department room to expand in the future. The building will be open for public tours this month.

2. Downtown tea tasting

Faith in Action Caregivers of Round Rock is sponsoring a tea tasting fundraiser June 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Keria Teas, 204 E. Main St. Visitors will be served teas, finger foods and desserts and have a chance to participate in a silent auction and raffle. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door for $10. 3. Bring in the BOSS

Back Office SolutionS, a one-stop shop for new and small businesses, opened last month at 3000 Joe DiMaggio Blvd., Ste. 21. The company specializes in assisting new and start-up small businesses and offers accounting options, bookkeeping, human resources, IT solutions and more. 4. Old computers needed

The Round Rock Area Serving Center is seeking donations of old computers and printers to be refurbished and given to local students. This is the second year the organization has issued computers to deserving children in Round Rock and Hutto. This year the serving center plans to donate more than 100 computers. 5. In case of emergency

Angelguard Medical Transportation in Round Rock opened last month at 3000 Joe DiMaggio Blvd., Ste. 83. The locally owned company will provide basic, non-life-support transport in Williamson County. For more information, call 716-1350.

6. Make your own wine

Round Rock wine lovers can make their own blends at the new Water 2 Wine in Sky Ridge Plaza, 2000 S. IH 35, Ste. H1. The fully functioning custom winery opened last month. All wines are made on site with juices imported from around the globe and are low in sulfites and histamines and are sold by the glass, bottle or custom-made batch. When ordering batches, patrons are invited to get involved in the production of their own wines by picking the flavors, adding ingredients and stirring the juice. The wine is then fermented on site for approximately 45 days. Batches yield 28 to 30 bottles and can be branded with customized labels. 7. Hot wings

Buffalo Wings & Rings opened its first location last month in the shopping center at the corner of Gattis School Road and A.W. Grimes Blvd. Wings and tenders are served with several sauces of varying spiciness alongside curly fries and salads. Wings are 49 cents on Tuesdays and tenders are 99 cents on Thursdays. PFLUGERVILLE

Welcome to town

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday, April 10, for Housewarmers of Pflugerville at the Chamber of Commerce office.The service welcomes nearly 200 new homeowners a month into the Pflugerville community with a gift bag of special offers and promotional gifts from participating area businesses. 8. Thunder in Pflugerville

Austin’s 33-year-old ThunderCloud Subs is coming to Pflugerville in the new shopping center at 1700 Grand Avenue Parkway this July. The newest store will be the 27th opened since ThunderCloud Subs began on Lavaca Street in 1975. The new location will feature a drive-thru window, outdoor seating and serve the shop’s classic subs, salads and soups. Online ordering will be available.

9. Relocated to Pflugerville

A local label printing company that started in Round Rock nearly 20 years ago has relocated to Pflugerville. Family-owned Hart Label printing company handles everything from stickers for wine and barbecue sauce to barcode and window decals. Their new office is located at 4674 Priem Lane. 10. Pregnancy preparation

The Pflugerville Pregnancy Resources Center, located at 101 N. Third St., will hold a grand opening May 3. The center offers expecting mothers advice and services to prepare them physically, emotionally and spiritually for the birth of a child. Services offered include free pregnancy testing, sonograms, group and individual counseling sessions and referrals to community services and housing.

11. Affordable living

Harris Branch Apartments, a low-to-moderately priced housing community at 12317 Dessau Road, just outside of Pflugerville, held its grand opening March 20. Amenities include a pool, exercise facility, business center, clubhouse, movie theater and volleyball courts. New segment of Toll 130 opensRent starts at $675 for a one-bedroom unit. 12. Home improvement

The first store in the new Stone Hill Town Center at Toll 45 and Toll 130, The Home Depot, will hold a grand opening Thursday, May 8 at 11 a.m. The home-improvement retailer will be joined by Best Buy and Super Target as more retailers move into the shopping center next spring. 13. New segment opens

The last Austin portion of Toll 130 opened April 30, finishing 49 miles of toll road from Georgetown to US 183. Drivers can now go south of Austin from Georgetown without traveling on I-35. The section of highway will eventually connect with Toll 45 Southeast when it is completed next year.
