Photo of John GarrettThe summer months (and heat) are upon us, and in this issue we have useful information about the summer attractions. This is a great place to do business, and it is also a great place to live. Both Round Rock and Pflugerville have traditional summer hot spots we have highlighted, as well as some that are new.

Nearly 40,000 people will come spend their time and money when the Games of Texas come to town in July. This event will not only help the local economy, but will also allow us to show what a great place this is to call home.

Estimates indicate that this event will have a $10 million impact. That is a nice boost in the arm for local retailers, restaurants, and hotels. It is also an opportunity for those of us who live here to take our families and friends out to enjoy good entertainment.

The Deutschen Pfest is another attraction coming up that is worth marking in your calendar. The annual event brings the best out of living in a small community. Taking the family to see the parade, attending the fair, and listening to good music right here is a treat.

Another feature of this issue is our candidate focus on page 23. We want you to know who is running, what each stands for, and why it is important for you to vote, May 13.

State legislation has made voting easier for citizens by combining the city council and school board elections. Keeping informed about the local candidates, and voting for your choices preserves the quality of the community and its schools and promises wellbeing for the future.

In 1990, 33,000 people lived in Round Rock and 4,000 in Pflugerville. Now more than 80,000 reside in Round Rock and more than 26,000 call Pflugerville home. At least 65 percent of those living in our communities now didn’t live here 15
years ago!

What a great opportunity it is for those who are new to get out and explore the qualities that make this community an excellent place to live and work. It is also time to go to the polls and elect the candidates you believe will make this an even better place to live and raise your family.
