SignFrom soaps to Swiss chard, a variety of foods and goods were available at the first Pflugerville Farmers Market Tuesday afternoon. Live music filled the air as hundreds waited in line for fresh produce, tamales, eggs, chicken, honey, jewelry, soap and more at the old gin property in downtown at 500 E. Pecan St.

Pflugerville Farmers Market manager Micki Eubanks said she hopes the weekly event will expose residents to local businesses. Produce

“There are a lot of neat little businesses downtown that many people don’t know about, and it’s a really nice little area,” she said. “So hopefully this will bring some folks there so they can see what’s available.”

Eubanks said going to a farmers market is a great opportunity to engage with farmers and get good ideas.

“I really don’t like going to the grocery store, but I get excited at the thought of going to the farmers market,” she said. “Gardeners and farmers are so open to giving their customers new ideas and gardening advice. A lot of them have worked in corporate and [information technology] jobs, and now they’re trying to get back to a more simple life, and it’s really interesting to talk to them about their journey.”

The farmers market will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through October. It is sponsored by Pflugerville Downtown Association, First United Methodist Church and Pfriends pfor Pflugerville’s Pfuture.
