How to fire your real estate agent

First, talk to your agent. Have you adequately communicated your expectations? Can the problem be resolved? If not, ask to be released from your contract.

Take your issue to the agent's superior. Likely this is the vice president or broker of the office. Be calm and have the facts prepared to present to the superior without an emotion-filled dialogue. Most managers will let you break the contract if the reasons are logical and factual.

You might find that the brokerage will not allow you to terminate your contract. If that is the case, you may have to wait it out until the end date of your contract when it automatically terminates. Ask up front if your agent offers a "Guarantee of Service" to allow you an easy out if you are ever dissatisfied and get it in writing.

If you feel you have been the victim of an egregious wrong by a real estate agent, you can file a complaint with the Texas Real Estate Commission.
