Graduate students worked for more than a year to interview business owners. Hear a presentation of the study, May 20, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at St. Edward’s University, 3001 S. Regional transportation
11. Rail
In April, the Austin City Council received a proposal for a 14-mile light rail route that would run from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport through downtown and to the Mueller development at 51st Street. Although none of the rail would cut through Southwest Austin, Council Member Brewster McCracken said the route would have an effect on the community if the proposed San Antonio-Austin Commuter Rail is built in the future, which would travel through Southwest Austin. Light rail funding and tax impact are not yet determined. It is expected that the issue will appear on the November ballot.
12. Road
The fourth and last Austin segment of Toll 130 opened April 30 from Hwy. 71 to US 183, near Mustang Ridge. Once completed early next year, Toll 45 SE will link to Toll 130, creating direct access from IH 35 at FM 1327 just south of Austin to Georgetown. Until then, drivers can reach the toll by taking FM 1327. For more information, visit www.centraltexasturnpike.org.
