At the Sept. 25 Austin City Council meeting, the council unanimously approved contracts for Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Service employees.
When the contract goes into effect Oct. 1, it will be the first time EMS employees have worked under a contract in 32 years.
The council also approved a contract to cover the Austin police officers. Both contracts are for three years with the option to extend for an additional year. The APD contract totals more than $24 million. The EMS contract amounts to more than $5 million. Both contracts include 2.5 percent wage increases for the first year and 3 percent for the second and third years.
Negotiations for the Austin Fire Department's contract will resume Sept. 29.
