On the second day of the union strike that has limited Capital Metro's service to the busiest and most traveled routes, the transit agency has increased the number of buses on the road by nearly 50 percent. Around 8 a.m. this morning, Capital Metro had 132 buses on the street, compared to 89 at the same time Wednesday.

Capital Metro is running more frequent service today on 13 routes after adding the #2 Rosewood, #4 Montopolis, and #325 Ohlen back into the service plan. All routes will operate from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a frequency of 30 minutes or better. During a strike no fares will be charged.

Capital Metro also reports that an increasing numbers of StarTran employees are returning to work. As more employees return to work, Capital Metro will provide additional service.

"Capital Metro truly appreciates and commends all of the employees that continue to work during the strike," said Capital Metro President/CEO Fred Gilliam. "We are optimistic that we will be able to increase service even more so that we can help our customers get to work and school."

UT Shuttle routes and the Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) are operating as scheduled. UT Shuttle routes are available to the general public and may provide viable transportation options in lieu of riders' regular routes.

Capital Metro asks customers to review the limited service options available and prepare for alternate transportation. For the latest information on routes, visit http://www.capmetro.org or call 474-1200.
